Mirage 2000 Jets Deployed to Ukraine: From Transfer Promise to Combat-Use Reality
Following Russia’s large-scale invasion in 2022, Ukraine’s air force has sought additional aircraft capable of defending its skies against cruise missiles, drones, and aircraft where possible. Within that broader effort, attention has increasingly focused on the Dassault Mirage 2000, a French-designed fourth-generation fighter known for interception and precision strike missions.
The transfer becomes real: first deliveries from France
For much of 2023–2024, reporting about a possible Mirage 2000 contribution largely centered on training and future delivery plans. Over time, that speculation narrowed as official statements and defense-media reporting began to confirm that French aircraft were actually being transferred.
In early February 2025, multiple outlets reported that the first Mirage 2000 fighters France pledged to Ukraine had arrived. French Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu publicly stated the deliveries were underway and that Ukraine would receive the aircraft to help defend its airspace.
